9/18/08 - Welcome to Houston
Gotta love Houston. Not even back half a month and I already had to evacuate for a hurricane. Well actually didn’t have to evacuate, just happened to go to Austin for the weekend. Long story on that one.

With Ike bearing down on Thursday, we got out of work and headed to Austin on Friday to celebrate my college friend’s bachelor party..... only he wasn’t there. In fact it was canceled at the last minute because everyone’s flights in got cancelled. It didn’t stop Jason Marks and myself having a bachelor party in Jeff’s honor. After weekend of partying it was time to face reality and head back to Houston. The damage was a lot loss then expected.... but then again when doesn’t then news exaggerate everything.  Stayed at a friends who had power on Sunday and then went to check things out at our place. We got lucky, a few branches down and the power was out. (Power was pretty much out in the whole city). Monday the power was back on at our place (only one side of the street, and only half a block.... everything else was still out around us). So with work still off we had everyone over for a Hurricane party..... actually went to a lot of hurricane parties this week. Guess that really tells you how unscathed Houston got hit (Galveston is another story). Was back to work on Wednesday. Downtown had limited power. Still a lot of traffic lights out and a lot of glass on the streets from the broken windows on the high rises. All in all things are getting back to normal pretty quickly. I think we may even throw another hurricane party this weekend for good measure.

Oh yeah, as of Thursday night only about 50% of Houston has power.
