7/10/08 - 5 Pint Friday I am sure I have told many of you about “5 Pint Friday,” it’s a tradition started long before I ever moved to Aberdeen. Some buddies from my running club started it as a way to drink beer on a Friday night, but still be able to get up early Saturday mornings to get in their long run in for marathon training. So it is pretty basic, everyone meets at the designated bar (lately it has been Old Blackfriar’s) at 8pm sharp. Over then next three hours we drink 5 pints. Sometime we move to other pubs, sometimes we don’t. Everyone has to be done with their 5 pints by 10:50pm because the last buses are at 11pm. Home by 11:15 and in bed early so you can get up early the next day. Lately it has turned into 6 pint Friday, which isn’t a terrible thing. Still can get up and go for a run. It did get me thinking about America though. We did the math.....
1 UK pint = 20 oz
6 UK pints = 120 oz
1 US bottle of beer = 12 oz
6 UK pints = 10 US bottles of beer
So on Fridays we drink 10 bottles of beer cause we want to take it “easy.” I must really be a Scot now if I think 10 beers is a quite night.....
