7/11/08 - The Scottish McLovin
I am always on the look out for people that look sort of like famous people. I’m not really sure why... maybe it is just a good reason to people watch. Most of the time people aren’t dead ringers, it is more they look like they could be a brother or sister of someone famous...... as in “Hey, that guy looks like he could be Sly Stallone’s brother.” Which is actually kind of ironic seeing how Sly does actually have a brother, Frank, who sort of looks like him.....
Anyway, I am getting a bit off subject. I was out exploring new Pubs with my friend Anna last weekend and we happened upon a pub call “The Snuggery.” Yep, that was the actual name. They had a one man band playing. Well, he was actually just singing along to karaoke tracks. We set up on the upper balcony taking it all in... when my famous person radar sensed something in the air. I looked down and see McLovin from “Super Bad.” Too be honest, this guy was more then a brother, he was a dead ringer. We swooped in to take a closer look. Even upon closer inspection he passed the test. Same haircut, same glasses, almost down to the same shirt!!! I was so amazed I had to take a close up picture for proof.... you be the judge.

7/10/08 - 5 Pint Friday
I am sure I have told many of you about “5 Pint Friday,” it’s a tradition started long before I ever moved to Aberdeen. Some buddies from my running club started it as a way to drink beer on a Friday night, but still be able to get up early Saturday mornings to get in their long run in for marathon training. So it is pretty basic, everyone meets at the designated bar (lately it has been
Old Blackfriar’s) at 8pm sharp. Over then next three hours we drink 5 pints. Sometime we move to other pubs, sometimes we don’t. Everyone has to be done with their 5 pints by 10:50pm because the last buses are at 11pm. Home by 11:15 and in bed early so you can get up early the next day. Lately it has turned into 6 pint Friday, which isn’t a terrible thing. Still can get up and go for a run. It did get me thinking about America though. We did the math.....

1 UK pint = 20 oz

6 UK pints = 120 oz

1 US bottle of beer = 12 oz

6 UK pints = 10 US bottles of beer

So on Fridays we drink 10 bottles of beer cause we want to take it “easy.” I must really be a Scot now if I think 10 beers is a quite night.....
