Weekend in Budapest and The Sziget Music Festival

So I have a friend, Jessie Foltz, from Houston who is living in Budapest and I’ve been meaning to visit her for a long time. She told me about this week long music festival called Sziget..... so figured that was a perfect reason to go. Invited along a friend from Aberdeen Erin who I just met a few weeks earlier. Kinda random, but so are most my trips in Europe.

So I didn’t really know anything about Budapest before I went and purposely didn’t really look into it before I left. Jessie said it was an awesome city, so I figured I would go in blind and make an unbiased judgment. If I didn’t like it I could always blame Jessie.

We got in late on Thursday night and headed straight to a bar. Gotta start off right! The bar was a really cool beer garden wedged between some old 18th century buildings. OK.... so this place has got some character.

Next day we toured the city. Must say, I was pretty impressed. Jessie lived right in the middle everything. That night saw Jessie’s friend Ana’s birthday. Headed out to a night club called “Bed Beach.”

Rest of the weekend saw us hanging out in the city by day, and going to Sziget at night. Sziget was one of the most interesting music festivals I have ever been to. There wasn’t really any big name bands, but it was the mix of people from all over Europe, the eclectic variety of music, random stages, and people camping all over the place that made it a unique experience to say the least. Music ranged from mainstream to death metal to House/Trance to Ska to hip hop and even some raging Orthodox Jewish dancers. Took a few videos......
