Blind Whisky Tasting

Since I moved to Scotland three years ago I started to enjoy whisky more and more. In fact I had built up a pretty nice collection of single malt Scottish Whisky. With my upcoming move back to the United States, I realized I couldn’t take any of my alcohol with me (crazy customs laws in the US). The only reason to have whisky is to enjoy it with your friends so I decided to have a whisky tasting at my place.

Now to make it interesting I decided to put a few twists on a the regular format. There would be six whiskys on the tasting. It would be a blind tasting and no one would know the whiskys beforehand. After tasting the six whiskys everyone would rank them. Then I would bring out the bottles and everyone would try and match the bottles to their notes and rankings. Then, I would tell everyone which whisky was for each round. Who ever match a whisky right and had it ranked high on their list would get the rest of that bottle.

Oh yeah, I also had a buddy there who didn’t drink so I set up a five cola challenge for him.

All in all it was a success and we managed to drink most of my bottles.
