Entries from April 2008

4/30/08 - Almost Done
So I am almost done with all my April travels. I am writing from the Manchester Airport in England coming back from Ulverston.

Some random observations from my trips.
- Oslo Norway is still one of my favorite places... only if I’m not paying
- Magaluf in Mallarco is the worst place in Spain. It pretty much is Britain in a sunny climate and everyone is sunburned. No Spanish culture there at all.
- I really need to train more at rock climbing.
- Weather in England is just as bad as Aberdeen.

I guess that is it for now....

4/17/08 - Travel Fool
It always seems to happen this way. I don’t do any type of travel for a few months, then get slammed. The month of April is one of those months. Right now I am in Olso Norway for work. Man I love this place. Just really glad my company is paying my expenses. A beer here cost $10! I figure the price of a beer is pretty universal way to judge how expensive a place is. Anyway, I am about mid way through my European tour. This is what I have been and/or am getting up to;

Manchester/Endinburgh - vacation weekend
Croatia - 5 day vacation
Oslo, Norway - 4 day work trip
Mallorca, Spain - 7 day rock climbing vacation
Ulverston, England - 3 day work trip
Tarbert, Scotland - 3 day sailing trip

All of this is in a span of 6 weeks!

4/4/08 - Weekend of Championships
It isn’t often you get to see two different World Championships in one weekend, but then again when its two sports that only myself and about 20 other people care about then maybe it isn’t that rare. Headed out Friday afternoon for an all day drive down to Manchester England for the
World Track Cycling Championships. Getting there was an adventure. 6 hours to get from Aberdeen to Manchester, then another hour for us to navigate the center of the city and find the hotel. Word of advice to anyone ever coming over to the UK to visit.... don’t try and drive in the downtown of any major city. Oh yeah, it was pouring rain the whole drive too. The racing was amazing. I won’t go into any detail because I can see I am already boring most people.

That evening we headed to Edinburgh for the World Cross Country Championships that was happening on Sunday. Again, won’t even go into who was racing and who won. In case you didn’t guess it was someone from an African country... nope not a Kenyan, but an Ethiopian.

Decided to test my photography skills and rented a monster professional lens for my camera. Got a few ok pictures. Just because I had a huge lens didn’t make me any good. Though I did stand tall and laugh at all the people with tiny lenses.

All in all it was a great weekend with good friends.
